Artist Bio
Jen Suarez is a s a New York–based multidisciplinary artist working in oil paint, watercolor, and, more recently, sea glass. Her work explores the emotional terrain of abuse, sexuality, vulnerability, and healing. Recently her work is often set against the symbolic landscape of the beach.
Through richly layered oils and fluid watercolors, Suarez navigates the tension between beauty and discomfort — softness and rupture.
The sea glass and shells incorporated into her work are collected from the west coast of Puerto Rico, a place that has grown deeply meaningful to her over the past six years. Shaped by tide, time, and erosion, these materials carry their own histories of survival and return. By embedding them into her pieces, she reinforces themes of resilience, reclamation, and the enduring connection between body, memory, and landscape.
Balancing intimacy with strength, Suarez creates work that invites viewers into difficult but necessary conversations. Each piece holds space for complexity, confronting pain while honoring the body, memory, and the possibility of renewal.
